Preface :- This three novelists are concidered as the pioneer s of Indian writing in English. Indian writer of English fiction were neither many nor significant until the begining of the present century .Towards , the nineteenth century these was a good deal of literary activity througs the medium of english, especially in Bengal,but fiction was
vernacular.
Compared to drama and poetry ,the art of fiction is quite new.Before the nineteenth century the Indian Literatures had the romance,the tale and fable but the “Novel” which were failar with ,today was the gift of the west.Today novel has become a dominent literary form.the early Indo Anglian were written under the influence of the popular English novelist.
Raja Rao:-
Raja Rao was born on 8 november 1908 -2006 was an Indian writer of English language novels and Short Story,Whose works are deeply rooted in Hindusiam. He is novelist and a short story writer,he too is a child of the Gandhian Age,and revels in his work his sensitive awareness of the forces let loose by the Gandhian Revolution as also of the thwarting or steadying pulls of past tradition.His four books up-to-date are the novel ....like

The Serpent and the Rope 1960, a semi autobiographical novel recounting a serach for Spiritual truthi n Europe and america established him as one of the finest Indian Prose stylists and won him the Sahitya Academic Award in 1964.For the entire body his work, Rao was awarded the Neustadt international Prize for literature in 1988. Rao's wide ranging body of work, Spanning a number of genres , is seen as varied and significant Contribution to Indian English Literature, as well as world literature.
Raja Rao was educated at Muslim schools, the Madras Aliya in Hydrabad and the Aligarh Muslim University ,having a majored in English and history,he won the Asiatic Scholarship of the Government of Hydrabad in 1929,

Mulk Raj Anand :-
Mulk Raj Anand was the Pioneer of the Indian English literature,Anand was born on 12 Dec 1905 in Peshawar the central city of Northest frontter province.he got education at Lahore,London and Cambridge and took a doctorate in Philosophy after wards he dedicated his life to his writings one of his early books was
“ Curries and other Indian dises”
His mother gift of story telling.Mulk Raj Anand is Indian Writing in English notable for pover cast in traditional Indian Society.One of the pioneer of Indo-Anglican Fiction ,he togather with R.K.Narayana, Ahemad Ali,and Raja Rao was writers in English gain an international readership.Anand is admired for his novel and short stories,Which have acquired the status of being classic works of modern Indian English literature.He is also notable for being among the first writer to incorporate Panjabi and Hindustani idioms into English and was a recipient of the civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan.
Mulk Raj Anand ,a socially committed novelist ,has produced a good deal of literature.He has written more than a dozen Novels and about Seventy short srories and a host of essays and articles on a number of subject.His novel fall into two categories namely social and autobiographical novel. He focused his attention on the suffering ,misery and poor as a result of the exploitation of the downtrodden class of the Indian society.
Religious,hypocrisy,feudal system East and west encounter,the place of woman in the society ,superstitions aremajor themes.

The present chapter deals with five novels deals with poverty,hunger and exploitation as their major themes.

His first novel ' Untouchable ' ,published on 1935,introduces us to the world of outcasts, 'Coolie ' which followed, is a study of a village lad who goes to work first as a servent in a middle-class house-hold then ,then in ' a medival pickle factory' and finally in a “ To Leaves and Bud ” tells the story of peasants and their exploitation by the Assm Tea planter. Srinivasa Iyenger says,
“ Of the Indo-Anglian novelist,only
Mulk Raj Anand and R.K narayan
have shown anything like stamina
and stern consistency of parpose ”
Literary Style :-
Anand who was associated with communism, used his novels to make brode attacks on various elements of India's social structure and on British rule in India.They are considered important for their social statement.
R.K. Narayana :-
R.K Narayana was born on 10 October 1906, 13 May 2001. R.K. narayana full name Rashipuram Krishnaswamy Narayan,belong to the age of Indian Freedom Struggle of 20th century.He was in Indian writer,best known for his works set in the fictional south.Indian town of Malgudi.The three bright stars, luminaries of Indian English literature,mulk Raj Anand, R.K narayan and Raja Rao started writing their fiction ,largely in this period of great ferment and excitement.Some of their early works truly reflect the conditions and the problems that characterize the early decades of the twentieth Century India and her people.The emotion of the their age in their fiction directly or indirectly.
Literary Style :-
Narayana's short-story writing style has been compared to that the narrative without loosing out on elements of the story.Narayana has also come in for being too simple in his Prose and Fiction.
